Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

The smallest Topps set of the 1970s and a 127-card decrease in size from Topps’ 1972 released the year before, the 1973 660-card set put out by the baseball card giant was the last to be released in a multiple series format and is the last to feature the legendary Willie Mays as an active player. Offered here, we present this complete set of 1973 Topps baseball cards that falls in the condition scope of EX-MT with many better examples closer to NM in our opinion. Led in value by the rookie card of Mike Schmidt, which also includes Ron Cey and John Hilton, the example included with this particular set has been inspected and encapsulated by the graders at PSA who have deemed it worthy of an EX 5 mark. Housed in a PSA holder that remains in good condition, light scratches are seen over each side. Chalked full of stars, those including 50-Clemente, 142-Munson, 174-Gossage, 245-Yastrzemski, 255-Jackson and 370-Stargell fall in the condition vicinity of EX-MT/NM while 380-Bench is around EX-MT+. Other star cards include 350-Seaver in the range of EX/EX-MT as well as 100-Aaron, 130-Rose, 220-Ryan and 305-Mays in the vicinity of EX condition. The last two noteworthy offerings include those of 1-Ruth/Aaron/Mays and 330-Carew in the scope of VG while all the included checklist cards remain unmarked and in conditions that are consistent with majority of the set. Of note, approximately 20-25 of the cards are off-centered or miscut, including the leadoff card of Ruth/Aaron/Mays while 660-Sherman is damaged at the bottom left corner. The PSA holder housing the Schmidt rookie card is in good condition with light scratches seen over both sides. A fun trip back in time, this set awaits its new owner.
