Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

The ongoing popularity of and quest for GEM MINT sports cards will result in lofty interest here, with Wayne Gretzky's famous and coveted 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie card offered in high grade condition, KSA awarding its highest mark to this tantalizing example. For those of you not following along in recent times, we can tell you that card #18 pictures The Great One as a teenager while in the World Hockey Association and not long after he was acquired by Edmonton from the Indianapolis Racers. OPC's blue-bordered cards were released while Wayne was opening eyes during his first NHL campaign, a 137-point season. This eyebrow-raising example features bright vivid blue borders, near-precise centering and an attractive surface among its attributes. Magnification allows the detection of minuscule chips in the left edge, near both the top and bottom left corners, with a touch of wear at the bottom right corner also to mention. Turning up less often than others are Gretzky RCs that, like this one, include two thin horizontal lines at the base of the cartoon on the back, a sign of, in the opinion of many hobbyists, OPC's first print run that season. It should be noted that according to KSA, it is possible that a Wayne Gretzky rookie card receiving GEM MINT recognition is from an uncut sheet. This enticing specimen is entered into the KSA verification database and can be verified on the firm's website. It also can become a cornerstone of your Grezky/RC collection and/or portfolio, with no scratches to the KSA holder visible. A paramount opportunity is worthy of serious consideration.
*Please also note that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
