Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
A Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 2016, Rogatien Vachon's NHL career started with the netminder wearing the red, white and blue of the Montreal Canadiens, winning the Stanley Cup with the Habs in 1968, 1969 and 1971. Offered here, we have a stick used by the HOFer during the early-1970s while with Montreal, in either 1970-71, or early in 1971-72 before being dealt to Los Angeles. A Victoriaville Pro model with “R Vachon” and “1” stamped-on, a stamp reading “Victoriaville Hockey Sticks Ltd.” is found on the upper portion of the shaft on both sides. The stick retains the original black tape over the blade and white-over-black on the knob, along with the white tape over the lower and upper paddle. Void of the two stripping accents, wear including tears and puck marks, is seen to the taped section of the blade and paddle. Puck marks are present throughout the length of the stick, with red post paint transfer exhibited on the backside of the shaft as well. Damage is present at the heel, with cracks seen to the top and bottom edge of the paddle and chipping to the upper portion of the shaft on the underside. Addtionally, Vachon has signed the paddle with a black marker ink signature including an “HOF 16” inscription below with both displaying without issue.
