One in a long line of noble Montreal team captains to contribute monumental effort to the Canadiens' cause during his memorable 16-year career, Bob Gainey helped the Habs to five Stanley Cup titles while combining amazing defensive play with 239 career goals. Hailing from his third season in the National Hockey League with the Habs, we offer this jersey worn by Bob Gainey during the 1975-76 season and it’s been photo-matched!
Wilson tagging displaying a “44” size designation is affixed to the inner collar with the front of the bright red jersey sporting the famed “CH” crest in layered tackle twill with Gainey’s number “23” sewn to the sleeves and verso in white-over-blue tackle twill. Featuring a garter style fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows excellent game-use. Dark stick marks are seen over the front, sleeves and rear numbers with numerous team repairs present over the lower front and each sleeve. The front of the jersey, as well as the left sleeve, shows unrepaired holes with board burns seen over the front and sleeves while red paint transfer is exhibited over the “3” of the left sleeve as well. Pilling is found on the interior with fraying from wear also found.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-matches, Getty Image #817682686 is matched to the pair of dark stick marks at the top of the Canadiens team crest as well as the well as the distinctive folds found on the left side of the “CH”. Some of the black marks on the lower front of the jersey are also visible in the image. Additionally, the jersey is also photo-matched to an included numeric image of a David Bier photo which shows the distinctive folds on the left side of the “CH” and other particular details of the team crest. A fabulous piece from one of the most reliable players to red suit up in the red, white and blue.
