Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
There must be some luck of the Irish in the air of the City of Boston for the Bruins to have been able to call two of hockey’s greatest defensemen theirs during the best parts of their careers. Of course, we’re talking about Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque, the latter of the two finally getting his elusive Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001. Presented here is a stick used by Ray Bourque during his time in Denver (1999-00 and 2000-01). A Sher-Wood PMPX 9950 model, “Bourque 77” factory graphics appear over the upper shaft, with “Handcrafted Exclusively for Raymond Bourque” on the underside. The original tape is fully intact with black on the blade and white on the top of the shaved handle. “SL” and the number “1” are written on the knob tape in black marker. The foil accent sticker at the bottom of the shaft also remains intact. Signed at the heel in black marker, the signature presents well with no flaws whatsoever. Game wear on the piece is very light with only small abrasions on the shaft and puck marks and small tears to the tape found on the blade. Overall, the stick presents beautifully with no cracks or brakes. The stick is part of a large collection of sticks featured in this auction with our consignor informing us that he obtained most of them from various NHL All-Star Games over the years with four such examples from the collection having been photo-matched to All-Star Games. Additionally, included with the stick is a replica jersey hailing from the 2000 NHL All-Star Game that has been signed by the legendary defenseman on the back numbers. The jersey, made by CCM, tagged a size large and customized as a Bourque, remains new with tags and displays well with excellent eye appeal.
