Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

An Eddie Murray rookie card and some fun bonuses contribute to this O-Pee-Chee baseball card offering from the 1970s, led chronologically by a complete set from ’77, the season that saw the Toronto Blue Jays make their MLB and OPC debut and O-Pee-Chee reduce its card set from 660 to 264 – some kids were not at all happy. Few creases are spotted, with cards in the EX to NM range coming around the most often and joined by superior and (minimal) lesser examples. Notables include Nolan Ryan’s regular issue (#65)(EX) and the last card 264-Ryan Record Breaker, a condition exception at VG. Eddie Murray’s ’78 RC headlines a 242-card assembly, with pleasing centering and EX-MT condition to report. The ‘78s are overall nicer, with EX-MT to NM-MT entries dominating and you’ll also come upon some MINT representatives. The ’78 Ryan exhibits a subtle stain in the lower left corner and is otherwise EX+, while among Hall of Fame legends present in both sets are Brett, Yount, Yaz, Rose, Schmidt, Reggie, Bench, Perez, Fisk, Carter, Carew, Carlton, Seaver, Morgan and others. A few are in a stack of close to one hundred duplicates from ’78, (dupes are not as nice as the set), with multiples of (unmarked) Expos (8) and Blue Jays (7) team cards/checklists. Approximately half of close to six dozen ’78 wrappers are without tears, while two display boxes are cool complements, although their four corners were ripped apart in order to flatten them. A pleasant trip back in time is what you’re in for with this lot.
