Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Earning the affectionate moniker of “Ticker” during his career due to his rapid heart beat from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, goaltender Kevin Hodson climbed through the ranks with the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and the Adirondack Red Wings before making his NHL debut for Detroit, in 1995-96. Hodson would backstop the Motown squad for parts of four seasons before being traded to Tampa Bay early in 1999. From his time guarding the Detroit crease, we have a mask worn by Hodson with the Red Wings circa 1997-98. Produced by Eddy Masks with decals on each side of the interior, the mask features a detailed Red Wings motif in team colours, with “Ticker” to the back plate along with “16”, “SM”, and two small Irish clovers with inserted numbers. Heavy use is shown throughout with numerous marks and scratches, with light surface crazing in spots. There are also a few small edge chips including at the right ear, with soiling to the mouth guard and a bit of rusting/oxidation to the cage screws. The strapping also exhibits some fraying at the ends. As we were unable to locate any images of Hodson wearing this mask in games, it was likely worn in practices and/or as a backup. Hodson wore a mask by Cubberly with a similar paint scheme in 1998-99. An Eddy Masks carry/storage bag is also included.
