The NHL executive of the year in 1978 as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, Ted Lindsay also briefly served the red and white from behind the bench starting late in 1979-80. As a longtime member of the Red Wings Alumni Association, Lindsay also helped raise money for children’s charities in Detroit. Originating from his personal collection, we have Terrible Ted’s 1977-78 Hockey News “NHL Executive of the Year” award plaque, his 1977 March of Dimes 8th Annual Metro Detroit “Distinguished Athlete Citizen of the Year” award, and his 2005 Red Wings Alumni Association Humanitarian Award. First, the Hockey News wooden plaque is 9” x 12”, with a metal plate affixed with the engraved particulars including “The Hockey News”, “NHL Executive of the Year”, “Ted Lindsay” and “1977-78”, while the March of Dimes award is a vertical wooden plaque mounted over a finished wooden base (13” x 5 ½” x 12”), with an image of Lindsay along with the particulars including “Distinguished Athlete Citizen of the Year 1977”, “8th Annual March of Dimes Sports Award Dinner” and “January 1978”. Lastly, the Alumni display is a 12” x 21” shadow box frame with large mounted three-dimensional Red Wings logo and engraved metal plaque the sports an Alumni Association logo with “The 2005 Humanitarian Award”, and “Theodore Ted Blake Lindsay”. The two plaque awards show light to moderate wear, while the Alumni display is in gorgeous condition. An LOA from the Lindsay family will accompany.
