The fourth and final AFL–NFL World Championship Game, Super Bowl IV was played under wet conditions in front of over 80,000 at Tulane Stadium, on Jan 11, 1970, with the Kansas City Chiefs from the supposedly inferior AFL taking on a strong and highly-favoured Minnesota Vikings squad. With the majority of the scoring taking place in the second quarter, the Chiefs decisively defeated the Vikings, 23-7. Rarely seen in the hobby, we have a scarce Super Bowl IV gold cufflink and tie tack set in the original presentation box. Originating from a Chiefs’ executive and likely never worn, surviving the passing half century wonderfully, the cufflinks sport a weight of approx 25 grams, with each 1” rectangular specimen featuring a football-shaped bed of zirconias encompassed by “Kansas City Chiefs”, “1969” and “World Champions” in raised letters. "Jostens 10K" and "14K" are stamped to each reverse. The tie tack is matching in size, details and construction, with a weight of 11 grams and "Jostens 10K". Accompanying the set, we have a circa-1964 Chiefs letterhead sheet signed by coach Hank Stram. Please take note that this set may be subject to a silent reserve.
The cufflinks and tie tack are in beautiful condition, with just a bit of wear visible over the reverse of each cufflink. The original presentation box with intact interior card stating the particulars included “Presented by the Chiefs Club (Booster Organization)” shows minimal wear. This rare set representing just the fourth Super Bowl in history is worthy of any advanced gridiron collection.
