Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
An especially large defenceman for the era with his 6’3” frame securing 220 lbs, Barry Long made his NHL debut for the Los Angeles Kings before spending numerous WHA seasons with both Edmonton and Winnipeg. From his lone season in Motor City, this Detroit Red Wings jersey was worn by the Red Deer native in 1979-80. A Stall & Dean label with handwritten “2” is affixed to the collar, with a size “52” fly tag and “9” year tag placed adjacently. Featuring the famous winged-wheel team crest embroidered over the chest, “2” appears over the sleeves and verso in single twill, with no nameplate over the upper reverse (there is evidence of a former nameplate). A garter-style fight strap has also been utilized on the vintage garment.
Exhibiting nice game-use, there are faint washed-out marks over the lower front, with burns over each sleeve. There is also some paint transfer near the reverse number, with seven team repairs over the left sleeve including a large specimen near the “2”, and a single example near the right cuff. Hailing from the personal collection of an important hockey executive, his signed LOA will accompany.
