Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Mesmerizing stares into the camera's lens by two of hockey's all-time greats have the beholder contemplating Art Ross and Newsy Lalonde's place in hockey history, along with hockey over one hundred years ago, prior to the formation of the NHL. The league's forerunner, the National Hockey Association, featured six teams when these cards were issued by Imperial Tobacco, with 1912-13 C57 cards the scarcest among the company's three sets of the era. Creases, wear and staining are visible in both cards, with that of Montreal Wanderers' d-man Art Ross graded PR-FR 1 and housed in an older PSA holder, while paper loss, tape stains and back damage additionally affect the Lalonde entry. Second only to George Vezina's card in the C57 set in terms of importance/value are Ross and Lalonde, with more affordable low grade examples awaiting your bid here.
