Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Originating from the earlier days of the Original Six era and some of the harder to locate memorabilia of the Bleu Blanc Rouge, we have a Montreal Canadiens real photo postcard lot of 6, hailing from the late-1940s, with a trio of different HOF members featured. Postcards are present for Maurice Richard (2, one trimmed and signed), Bill Durnan, Billy Reay, Buddy O’Connor and Murph Chamberlain, with each having the player’s respective name across the front along with a postal reverse, with the Durnan, Reay and signed Richard postcards trimmed and now slightly smaller. Ideal to add to your rare vintage Habs holdings, we should note that we have handled only a few examples from this series of postcards previously.
The full-size Richard postcard exhibits a clean surface with light corner wear and toning, with a few small creases visible along with pencil crayon notations over the reverse. The signed Richard postcard has been trimmed and is missing roughly 20% of the postcard from along the bottom border, with Richard adding a nice, later-in-life blue sharpie signature, with toning and moderate wear to the postcard itself. The Chamberlain sports light wear and toning along with a single pinhole, while the O’Connor exhibits creases, toning and a few minor stains over the reverse. The Durnan has been trimmed, with about 80% of the card intact, with clear tape added to a pair of small areas over the front. Lastly, the Reay is also trimmed, with creases, surface indentations and glue/paper residue over the reverse.
