Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Stocked with former Hamilton Tigers players after their collective rights were purchased by noted Big Apple prohibition bootlegger Big Bill Dwyer, the New York Americans would take to the ice for their inaugural NHL season in 1925-26, and would conclude their tenure as the single-season Brooklyn Americans, in 1941-42. A number of HOF members would don the patriotic stars and stripes of the Amerks, including Bullet Joe Simpson, Ching Johnson, Nels Stewart and Harry Oliver. This utterly rare real photo postcard feature’s the first-season Americans. At the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”, the black and white image picture’s the full team and management including Simpson, Billy Burch, Mickey Roach and others. This is the only the second 1925-26 New York Americans postcard we have ever handled.
Displaying beautifully with the surface retaining its glossy luster, there are a few minor surface lines and small wrinkles/creases, with “1928” handwritten in pencil faintly over the bottom right. The postal reverse exhibits heavy toning, with a short fountain pen inscription along with the date of “21/11/25”, with “1925-26” also handwritten in blue ballpoint over the upper left.
