Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

The only franchise in the history of the AHL to win consecutive Calder Cup titles in their first two seasons, the Maine Mariners were created as a farm club for the Philadelphia Flyers and existed from 1977 until 1987, when they were moved to Utica. This scarce Mariners jersey hails from the championship season of 1978-79, with use attributed to NHL star Ken Linesman. A small “M” size tag is affixed to the collar, with the vintage durene sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 48. In Philadelphia Flyers colours with an embroidered team crest, the attractive jersey features oversized and layered tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with an intact garter-style fight strap. With no nameplate currently over the upper reverse, we should note that there is evidence of a former removed example.
The jersey shows heavy game use and is littered with dark marks throughout including a number of large stick marks over the lower front, with considerable pilling to the interior elbow sections. There are also scrapes, burns and both blue and red paint transfer over the sleeves, with the “7” on the left sleeve slightly detached along its base. Linseman only played for the Maine Mariners in 1978-79 (38 games), while also playing with the Philadelphia Flyers (30 games). He is listed as wearing the #27 jersey with the Mariners in 1978-79.
