Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

The last goaltender in NHL history to serve as his team’s captain, Bill Durnan was utterly dominant throughout his short tenure in NHL creases, earning the Vezina Trophy along with NHL First All-Star Team selection in six of his seven seasons. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a photo signed by the 1964 HOF inductee. Diminutive in size at just 2 ½” x 3 ¼”, Durnan is pictured all smiles in a full on-ice pose in his Habs uniform. The bold black ink signature has been placed along the base, and it is absolutely flawless! A personalization has also been added to Hamlyn. A victim of kidney failure in his 56th year, in 1972, we should note that THIS IS ONE OF JUST A FEW BILL DURNAN SIGNED PHOTOS WE HAVE EVER SEEN/OFFERED.
As mentioned, the signature is perfect, with absolutely no issues. The small glossy print exhibits just light handling wear, along with some toning. There is also paper residue and a handwritten notation over the reverse of “Mar 27/44” (Durnan’s rookie season!), with Hamlyn noting when the photo was received back signed.
