Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Called up from Hollywood during the 1946-47 season, Bill Barilko would see action with Toronto in parts of five seasons before his famous and untimely disappearance/death, with the Maple Leafs crowned Stanley Cup champions in four of those years. Bill had a family business while with the Leafs selling TV’s, radios and sporting goods, with the Danforth avenue location advertised as “The House of Champions”. We have a small advertising mini-stick from Barilko Bros, with four Leafs signatures including the especially rare and supremely desirable Bill Barilko. At approx 9 ½” in length, advertising for the business graces both sides of the small and fragile cardboard stick, with HOF members Turk Broda and Harry Watson signing, along with Jim Thompson and the aforementioned Bill Barilko. An LOA from JSA will accompany this extreme rarity.
The Broda and Watson are both in black ink, the Thompson and Barilko in blue ballpoint, with the Barilko arguably the darkest, with the bold scripting showing no issues, with the just the Thompson somewhat faded. The stick itself is fragile as mentioned, with a few bends to the cardboard including through the Watson signature near the blade and just beneath the beginning of the Barilko signature. There are also a few spots of glue/paper residue, most likely originating from prior scrapbook removal.
