Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Featuring the vintage signatures of HOF members and Red Wing teammates Gordie Howe and Bill Gadsby, we have a stick with an interesting provenance signed by the pair. A CCM Pattern Made Professional model, the mid-1960s stick sports vintage black tape from the period over both the blade and handle/knob, with “7” stamped over the upper shaft. According to the accompanying letter of provenance, our consignor’s father was in the sporting goods business in Toronto for 30 years, and by his own recollection, he attended a Leafs game with a CCM rep circa-1964, and obtained the stick, with the rep acquiring the signatures. Both players have signed the same side of the upper shaft in black ink – ideal for display, with Howe signing “If it was a right hander I wouldn't have given it back – Gordie Howe”, while Gadsby has written, "Thanks for the stick, regards Bill Gadsby". Both inscriptions/signatures show wear with rubbing/fading, with the stick itself completely solid, showing just light wear. A sticker from KSA has been added to the lower shaft, with a matching LOA for the signatures to accompany.
