Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Thankfully granting the request of a fan, the Washington Capitals were asked by a letter-writing individual in 1979 if the club could send him a game-worn jersey, with the offered specimen the accommodated result. We have a Capitals sweater that was worn by Guy Charron in the mid-to-late-1970s, circa 1976-78. A Wilson label with “44” sizing sits affixed to the collar, with an intact but stained garter-style fight strap. Styled with “Washington Capitals” placed across the chest in individual twill letters, alternating blue and red stars in matching material have been placed across the upper chest and down each sleeve. “15” appears over the sleeves and verso, with “Charron” across the affixed nameplate. A team-issued photo of Charron along with a Capitals 1978-79 team photo will be included, with these items also sent to our consignor when he requested the jersey.
We should note evidence of a shorter former nameplate, most likely a TV nameplate, and with the Capitals notorious for stripping nameplates, we believe that this example was sewn back onto the sweater. The blue and red colours retain their vibrancy, with a large stick mark over the left sleeve along with some red paint transfer. There are also team repairs visible, with pairs over the lower front and right sleeve, along with a single example over the left sleeve. Both accompanying photos show wear and exhibit creases.
