Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

Arguably the most attractive and aesthetically pleasing sweaters ever worn in the NHL, we have a highly desirable Chicago Black Hawks example from circa 1976-77, with both Jeff McGill (1 game) and Michel Archambault (3 games) listed as wearing the number #27 that season, with this jersey likely worn by one or both players. A Wilson label with “40” sizing is affixed to the collar, with a tag from supplier Gunzo’s placed directly beneath. Styled with the famous multi-coloured Indian head team crest with chain-stitched detailing, “27” appears over the sleeves and verso in black-over-red layered tackle twill, with matching chain-stitched tomahawk crests over each shoulder. Sporting an intact garter-style fight strap, the vintage durene V-neck sweater shows no evidence of any numbers or team crest changes.
Surviving in gorgeous overall condition, the sweater does exhibit a bit of wear to the yellow chain-stitched detailing on the team crest, with a few faint stains visible beneath the crest as well as a small hole and additional stain over the left elbow. Two team repairs are also present, with one on the upper left sleeve, the other, beneath the right reverse shoulder. We should also note that the sweater was most likely later recycled by the Black Hawks for use during training camp or sent to a farm team.
