Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Hailing from the Soviet Union’s fourth straight European Championship in 1966 – their tenth European title – we have a gold medal, with the original recipient lost to time. A classic design of a goaltender minding his net with “1966” below graces the obverse of this gold-toned medal, encompassed by the words “Championnats D’Europe” and “European Championship”. The reverse shows the IIHF logo with “International Ice Hockey Federation” in English and French. At 2” in diameter, the medal remains in gorgeous condition, with just very light wear. A vintage box (not the original) currently houses the keepsake. The Soviets also won the 1966 World Ice Hockey Championships, the 33rd edition of the event. The tournament was held in Hala Tivoli, Ljubljana, SR Slovenia and SFR Yugoslavia from March 3 to March 14, 1966.
