The Memphis Southmen were the class of the World Football League’s inaugural regular season, taking the 1974 WFL Central Division title with a 17-3 record. Elvis Presley attended their home opener and Memphis fans took to calling them the Grizzlies. That became their official name the following season, when Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick and Paul Warfield left the two-time Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins to play for Memphis. This Southmen 1974 WFL Central Divison championship ring is the same one awarded to players, though this one was never presented and has a blank name plate. "Balfour 10K" is stamped on the inner band of the size 9 1/2 ring, which has an approximate weight of 28 grams. Comes with a Balfour ring bag and an LOA.
A dozen amber-colored stones are set along the upper and lower edges of a football outline on the tableau, with “Central Div” and “Champions” spelled out in raised gold above and below. The right shank features “1974” across the top above the team logo, featuring a grizzly bear in front of the outline of a radiating sun, with “Memphis Southmen” at the bottom. The left shank has a blank nameplate across the top above a raised gold WFL logo. The ring is nicely preserved overall with various surface scratches throughout and a nick to the edge of the inner band below the “N” and “S” in “Champions” on the lower bezel.
