Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Originating from the historic last season of the greatest of them all, we have a signed stick game-used by legendary superstar Wayne Gretzky in his last NHL contest in Edmonton, on Feb 21st 1999. A Hespeler CS Pro model in solid black, “Gretzky” appears stamped on the blade, with the stick retaining its original black tape on the blade and patented foam “Gripper” on the handle. Light but definite use is exhibited, with wear to the taped section of blade along with a few abrasions to the lower shaft. Wayne has signed across the front side of the blade just above the heel section in black marker adding “NYR 1999”, and the signature displays well. We should note that according to the accompanying LOA, the stick came directly through the Rangers team trainer and was signed by Wayne the very night it was used. Considering the fact that this stick was used in the last game played in the city that started it all for Wayne, it makes it an especially important specimen.
