Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Originally seeing use during the formative years of the diamond, we have a baseball bat that most likely hails from the 1870s/80s possibly earlier, with this example possessing a desirable-style knob. At 35” with a flat barrel top, the antique bat feature’s the mentioned bulbous knob, with “New England HDLS” reverse-stamped onto the barrel in small block letters, running from the ‘barrel to knob’, as opposed to the common from ‘knob to barrel’. Considerable use is exhibited on the somewhat heavy lumber, with numerous marks, grooves and abrasions to the barrel, along with a small area of brown paint over the knob and light paint-spotting to the handle.
