Serving as the mayor of Montreal’s Verdun neighborhood when the locale was still a working-class city during the Great Depression, from 1933 to the start of World War II in 1939, Herve Ferland was honoured during his tenure, with this elegant trophy produced in his name, presented to the “Provincial Bantam Hockey Champion” for 1934-35, according to the engraved text. At approx 16” in height, the 12” trophy bowl with elegant chased handles is mounted to a hallow 4” metal base. The additional engraved text states “Mayor Ferland Trophy”, “Presented to Verdun A.C." (athletic club), and “1934-35”. Exhibiting wear and tarnishing to the surface throughout, there is some minor chipping to the finish over the base, with a few small dents to the base also visible. Verdun has spawned considerable hockey talent traditionally, including Mike Bossy, Denis Savard, Dollard St Laurent, Scotty Bowman and others.
