The 2005 season saw Jacques Villeneuve return to Formula 1 on a full-time basis as he joined the Sauber Petronas team with teammate Felipe Massa to drive the C24 chassis. Jacques ended the season with 5 top 10 finishes with his best showing a 4th place at the San Marino Grand Prix.
This Bell HP3 helmet has painted by Bell Racing Europe in Jacques’ traditional design and is tagged “2005/04” and has the Spanish, San Marino and Belgian flag stickers applied to the back of the helmet by Bell trackside staff. The drink tube was added and the HANS clips still remain however the race radio has been removed, likely to be put into another helmet.
Jacques wore this helmet during three separate GP weekends. The helmet is first used at the San Marino GP in Imola, Italy, where Jacques qualifies 12th and finishes 4th, his best finish of the season. He then wears the helmet in Barcelona, Spain, for the Spanish GP where he qualifies 12th and retires from the race with a blown engine. The helmet then makes its last appearance in September at the Belgian GP where he qualifies 14th and finishes 6th. The helmet has been photo-matched to the Spanish GP weekend and there is photo reference of him wearing this helmet during the San Marino weekend as well. The helmet shows tremendous wear inside and out, it is very rare that a driver wears a helmet for two weekends let alone three. This helmet would make a centerpiece in any helmet collection.
Take notice that the included signed visor by Villeneuve currently on the helmet is a replacement one and not the correct model of visor for this helmet. Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. 05-04” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
