The Colorado Avalanche were the reigning Stanley Cup champions when HOF center Joe Sakic wore this Avs captain’s gamer during the 1996-97 season. Colorado’s distinctive captain’s “C” is sewn on the left breast of this beauty with Center Ice and Starter tags in the back of the collar and a size "54R-1SS8" tag is sewn inside the left rear hem. This Sakic game-worn jersey was part of a multi-jersey deal purchased directly from the team in circa 1998. Game wear shows in a few diagonal marks on the front tail, a board burn with frayed embroidery and marks on the team crest on the front, board burns on the sleeves, and black marks on Joe’s retired No. 19 on the back. Comes with an Avalanche LOA and an additional LOA.
The deal, which included this Sakic gamer and a few others, was purchased through Avalanche director of retail operations Greg Sherman, who later became Colorado’s general manager, in conjuction with and through Brian Rogers at the Detroit Hockey Company.
