Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015

Veteran defenseman Gerry Odrowski was among the NHL players who jumped ship for higher-paying contracts with the WHA back in the early-1970s. Odrowski’s 1973-74 L.A. Sharks game-worn alternate captain’s jersey from his personal collection is a rarely seen gamer from the original WHA team’s second and final season in Los Angeles. Rawlings size 48 tagging is sewn in the back of the tie-neck collar. Fantastic triple twill Sharks crest on the front with white thread cable stitching for the teeth and eyes has some puckering, as do the numbers on the sleeves and back. Game wear shows in black marks on the sleeves and front tail, and faint soiling stains under the armpits and at the cuffs. Comes with Gerry Odrowski’s signed LOA.
The long fight strap has a portion that has nearly worn through and is missing its original garter attachment. There is an unrepaired hole on the rear tail and a pair on each of the sleeves, and various reddish-brown stains throughout the jersey, with some on the front, back, sleeves and inner upper back. The black stripes on the waist, sleeves and knit collar are faded from laundering, which does not diminish this WHA treasure’s display, while the red stripes retain sharp color. The tie-neck collar distinguishes this sophomore set from the Sharks’ inaugural season jerseys worn in 1972-73 that also displayed serif-style letters on the nameplate.
