Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
Formidable color depictions of the “Wild West” produced by the O-Pee-Chee company are the likes of which infrequently come along, especially in this quantity, with "David" Crockett defending the Alamo on card #1 and Jesse James, Buffalo Bill, Custer and Wild Bill Hickok among the other subjects. Remarkably, we count 22 cards in crease-free EX, EX+ and EX-MT condition, with a few even making it to NM. In the VG neighborhood are 11 cards, with three at G and a couple of fillers comprising the near set of 38. Half a dozen duplicates are also in attractive crease-free shape, contributing to a tempting Canadian pre-war treasure.
With write-ups in both English and French, each card back also reads “This is one of the forty-nine cards in the Wild West Series Picture Card Bubble Gum.” Required for a complete set are #s 4, 8, 9, 23, 25, 26, 27, 34, 39, 45 and 46. Bang, bang from Canada!
