A Conn Smythe Trophy winner with Edmonton, All-Star goalie Bill Ranford made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins. Ranford’s 1986-87 Bruins game-worn rookie season jersey has an “86 04” born-on date tag behind the Maska flag tag in the collar and may also have been worn by Bill late the previous season, possibly in the Bruins’ last 1986 playoff game. There is evidence of a former nameplate and the current one has an “N” that is partially unsewn. The CCM logo is embroidered in black, black and yellow on the right rear tail and game wear includes black marks on the front of both sleeves and a tiny bit of red paint transfer on the front of the left shoulder. Comes with an LOA.
Ranford played four regular season games at the end of the 1985-86 season, including his first on March 29th at home. The Bruins finished up March 30th away, then April 3rd home, April 5th away, and April 6th home.
Ranford could have possibly worn this shirt April 3rd and/or April 6th and the last playoff game of the 85-86 season (April 12th - a game that Ranford played) and as the Bruins are very apt to do, they may have taken off the nameplate to use the jersey in the following training camp, then re-attached a nameplate for the 86-87 season, when these jerseys were worn.
