Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Presented to coach and GM Butch Goring after his IHL Grizzlies, which had moved from Colorado to Utah beginning in the '95-96 campaign, had captured the cherished Turner Cup in '96 for the second straight year. Measuring almost 17 1/2" high and 7" across the base, this wood and silver-plated trophy is inscribed as "1996 Turner Cup Champions Utah Grizzlies" and lists the players, management, and trainers of the championship squad. A slight dent is at the top of this beauty, a touch of tarnishing is on the top bowl, some nicks and scuffing on the base, and some slight scratching on the plating, but this trophy, which comes with an LOA from Mr. Goring, is in splendid overall condition. The Turner Cup, retired in 2001 when the IHL ceased operations, was named after Joe Turner, a minor league goaltender who was killed in action in 1944 during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.
