Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
The shot of the century, not only the puck off Paul Henderson's stick in game 8 of the 1972 Summit Series, but also from the camera of Toronto Star photographer Frank Lennon, who, along with Montreal's Denis Brodeur, captured the moment in time when Yvan Cournoyer embraced Henderson with an unhappy Tretiak and Yuri Liapin nearby. We have a gorgeous limited-edition 25" x 32" print of the Lennon shot, numbered 1715/1972, with images of 4 Hockey Canada cards surrounding it, signed with bold red marker by the 4 participants in the shot. Mr. Lennon has also signed the bottom corner. This fab print, titled "Goal of the Century" was released as part of the 25th anniversary of the '72 Summit Series. No marks or tears appear on this print but some faint fold creases are seen in a couple of places. In all likelihood they would be quite invisible when this print is framed. Two photographers captured almost identical shots of Cournoyer embracing Henderson, this one by Lennon, and another by Denis Brodeur who was sitting next to Lennon in Luzhniki Palace of Sports on Sept. 28, 1972. We’re enclosing a 3” x 5” photograph of Henderson, Cournoyer, Tretiak, Liapkin, and Frank Lennon, smiling for the camera alongside a similar Lennon print.
