Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
A beautiful bold blue ink "Gordon Howe" autograph graces the front of this encapsulated Gordie Howe rookie card, with Mr. Howe adding his famous number "9", along with "Mr Hockey." Nice bright colors strike the beholder, with a less-noticeable light vertical crease down most of the middle to mention, along with a more visible horizontal crease which runs across just under the Red Wings logo. Small light creases in the lower section of the card as well, but nothing atrocious by any means. Howe was already a Stanley Cup champion when this card was issued and would claim his second of four consecutive NHL scoring titles before leading Detroit to the Cup in the spring of 1952. What a year for Gordie, the Red Wings and for hockey cards, with this the key card in Parkhurst's landmark forever-popular inaugural set!
Classic Auctions is pleased to offer an exceptional collection of autographed hockey rookie cards, all of which have been encapsulated by PSA and certified “Authentic.” An area of the hobby which has gone under-appreciated and which has tremendous growth potential is that of the signed rookie card, when one considers the comparatively miniscule amount of vintage rookie cards which feature autographs. Our consignor’s sensational stash includes a marvelous array of Hall-of-Famers and stars. The fact that the pictured players handled and autographed the cards is indeed intriguing and thought-provoking. Please note that the cards themselves are not PSA-graded and that we’ve done our best to give an accurate account of their condition, with however no returns accepted in regards to condition details, as understandably, minute grade-lowering flaws may not be visible through PSA holders. Good luck with this outstanding collection.
