Russia loaded up with National Hockey League stars and was heavily favored at the start of the 1996 World Cup. But one big question surrounding the roster was the scratch of superstar Pavel Bure due to an injury suffered in a pre-tournament exhibition match against Team USA. The team had some early successes but could not seem to overcome the problem that the Americans posed.
Offered are the Red Nike Team Russia uniforms issued during the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. The Russians played four games during the series while wearing their red Nike uniforms. These included a 7-4 win over Slovakia on August 31st, a 2-5 defeat at the hands of USA on September 2nd, the 5-0 routing of Finland on September 6th and another 2-5 beating by Team USA on September 8th in the semis to knock them out of contention.
Each stylish jersey is tagged in the collar by Nike with the inventory bar code heat-pressed into the inner lower hem. All numbers, lettering and cresting is sewn on and the World Cup of Hockey Patch sits up on the left shoulder. Apart from the Zhamnov and Trefilov, this particular group seems to have been an extra set brought to the tournament and none show any visible signs of game used. Excepting those noted, we are offering this set as game-issued jerseys. Still, this is your chance to obtain a previously impossible-to-find style. Each jersey will come complete with a letter of authenticity from the NHLPA.
One of Team Russia's goals in the World Cup of Hockey came from Canadiens' defenseman Vladimir Malakhov, who played for his country in four of the five matches. His team-issued number "38" uniform is a size 56.
