With each passing year Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup championship rings only become more desirable. While it's been a long wait for the next one, vintage gold and diamond creations like this beauty from 1962 serve as a glorious reminder of the Leafs' decorated history. The NHL's dynasty of the 1940s and early 1950s, Toronto returned to the top of the heap at the end of the 1961-62 season to begin a run of three straight Cups. The Leafs defeated the defending Stanley Cup champion Black Hawks in 6 games to capture the Cup for the first time in 11 years, with Dick Duff having the distinction of scoring the Cup winner.
Offered here is one of the gorgeous championship baubles presented to members of the team, including players and front office members. The absence of a name leaves the original recipient's identity a mystery. A big diamond is set in the middle of the maple leaf on the tableau. Surrounding them are the words Torontonians were able to brag about for four times in the 1960s: "Stanley Cup Champions." The left shank displays two small maple leaves and an image of Lord Stanley's precious trophy. "Toronto" and "62" appears on the right shank with another pair of leaves. Stamped "Birks 10K" on the interior of the band, the size 9 1/2 ring has been worn with pride though it has been preserved in wonderful condition overall. From a special time in Maple Leafs history and deserving of a special home in a worthy Buds shrine.
