Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Fabulous pose is that of Winnipeg-born Nick Bawlf, who turned pro with the Haileybury Comets, one-year members of the National Hockey Association, in the NHA's inaugural season. The big "H" on the turtleneck sweater, the lack of shin pads and a paper label reading "Ottawa Championship Hockey Stick" are all intriguing. To our knowledge this is the first time a postcard featuring a Haileybury player has ever been auctioned. Rare matte-finish photo postcard is free of creases, with a small stain and pen/pencil mark in the lower right portion. Bawlf also appears in the 1910-11 Imperial Tobacco card set, later suited up for the Toronto Shamrocks and Montreal Canadiens, and was long-time hockey and lacrosse coach at Cornell University.
