Some of the era’s top hockey players also were accomplished lacrosse players when Imperial Tobacco issued cards during the 1910-1913 time frame and none were more famous than Cornwall, Ontario native Edouard “Newsy” Lalonde who stars in this nifty lot. A Hall-of-Famer in both sports, Lalonde appears in his “Nationale” blue and white uniform in the 1910 C60 set (#97), while card #21 in the 1912 C61 black & white issue lists him with Vancouver. Both cards are low grade, with paper loss, a pinhole and rounded corners as the notable flaws in the former, with the latter being affected by light glue residue on the reverse, (but no paper loss), light creasing and visible wear to the front. Meanwhile, hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Paddy Moran, of Quebec Bulldog fame, is depicted in an appealing C60 color card, (#75), which grades VG+. Four stars of the potent New Westminster team are also part of the group and include 36-James Gifford, 38-W. Turnball, 39-Punk Wintermute and 40-Tom Gifford, the latter considered the greatest defence player in the game and captain of the world champions. Cards are crease-free and easily VG-EX. Also from the C61 set is 42-Dr. Lachapelle (VG), with 78-Querrie from the color set completing things at G.
