Known as "The Turk," Derek Sanderson was a tough centre who was awarded the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s rookie-of-the-year in 1967-68. He became known as a tough guy who wouldn't back down from any fisticuffs and was likely the best two-way player in the game. Winning two Stanley Cups with the Big Bad Bruins in the 1970 and 1972 helped Sanderson rise to celebrity, becoming one of hockey's first rebels. He grew his hair long and sported a moustache before it was fashionable, living life as large as possible. Derek's tie-neck early 1970s white durene gamer is from the era of the Bruins’ last two Cup wins. Wilson size 44 tagging remains in the neck though there is no fight strap. Solid game wear shows in black marks on the front left beside the gorgeous twill Hub crest, red paint transfer on the right sleeve and left rear tail, an unrepaired cut on the left sleeve and a board burn with red paint towards on the cuff, and pilling on the inside that shows most prominently on the black fabric. Derek’s recent signature in fine blue marker with his #16 sits on the left breast. This beautiful old durene Derek Sanderson gamer is a prized find from the Bruins' glory years.!
