Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Since many of his receptions were like works of art themselves, it's only fitting that Hall of Fame tight end Peter Dalla Riva would be the subject of a number of action portraits by a variety of artists. This fantastic lot includes three interpretations of the great CFL star's ability to catch the football and lead the powerhouse Montreal Alouettes of the 1970s to victory. Dalla Riva is the focus of "The Last Catch" as he is pictured wearing his white Alouettes uniform with red sleeves and a blue helmet diving into the end zone to make a catch with two Ottawa Rough Riders converging on him. This original 16" x 20" canvas portrait by artist George Menendez Rae remains in its original 25" x 29" wood frame that features a gold colored plaque at the bottom with the painting's title and the artist's name. Artist Diane Berube presented Dalla Riva with a striking 26" x 18" likeness of himself in the Alouettes' blue, white and red uniform with his arms held down in front of him to catch a pass right on the familiar No. 74 on his chest. Mounted in a two-level, grey and blue matte, it is presented in a stylish 32" x 24" silver metal frame. A third 26" x 20" original portrait depicts a stylized version of Dalla Riva stretched out with his arms overhead to snare a pass. Signed "Gregory" by the artist, it is presented in its original 35 1/2" x 29 1/2" wood frame. All three paintings are from Peter Dalla Riva's personal collection and come along with the legendary tight end's signed letter of authenticity.
