Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Incredible inaugural season uniform for the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association is a durene knit made by Maska. The vintage black and gold Maska tag is sewn in the neck and this example measures out to be a size 44. Best is the chain-stitched "Jets" crest sewn onto the chest, a style that was only used for the team's first season. Two-tone tackle twill number "24" on each sleeve and also on the back but the shirt does not appear to have ever had a name plate. A peek at the 1972-73 media guide does not list a player wearing number 24 and we surmise this was an extra jersey from the first set that was worn in camp or in practice scrimmages. The jersey does display light wear with a half-dozen black stick marks, some material pulls and small areas of light staining. A rare and highly-sought-after style from the dawn of a storied and long-defunct professional league.
