Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Here's your opportunity to fashion a great display highlighting the evolution of the wooden hockey stick. From the one-piece models of the 1920s and 1930s to the dawn of fiberglass blades in the 1960s, offered here is an assortment of 14 vintage hockey sticks, including 8 wands dating from the pre-World War II era, each fashioned from a single piece of wood. Among the 4 full-size sticks from that era are 3 with parts of their original paper labels remaining on the shaft. "Comet" reads part of what little labeling is left on one particularly thick and heavy one-piece stick. "Maple Leaf Hockey Stick" reads the blue and white paper labels on a still-taped stick with a slice missing from the top edge of its heel and a crack on the bottom. "Milton Wood Products" label is discernible on another stick with a now less-than-straight shaft. "The Woodscraft Hockey Stick" reads part of the paper label remnants on one of four youth sticks including one stamped "Junior" and another stamped "School". Among the post-war sticks are a vintage Spalding stamped "Junior" and two CCM Comet sticks - one with a bare wood blade and the other with fiberglass strands. A couple of Mastercraft sticks include a "Champion" model with white remnants on its blade featuring fiberglass strands wrapped from the toe up to the bottom part of the shaft. An "800" model Mastercraft has black colored fiberglass panels on either side of the blade, the same as a 1960s Victoriaville stick. Contact us for more detailed information.
