Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Slava Fetisov was a power along the blueline for the Russian National team for years before he made the jump to the National Hockey League in 1989. His stellar play with CSKA Moscow, Team Russia and Cup wins with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997 and 1998 ensured him a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame and he was indeed inducted in 2001. This light mesh CCCP uniform was worn by Fetisov circa 1980 or very soon after and is manufactured by Kisapuku in size 56 with their tagging in the collar. Thinner tackle twill letters spell out "CCCP" across the chest with more of the same material sewn onto the back forming the numeral "2". Knit sleeve inserts appear at each elbow and the diamond design rings are knit inserts sewn into the waist. Improper washing has given the white mesh a pinky tinge and the game wear is obvious with a handful of board burns and stick marks on the arms and front. A number of smaller holes have not been repaired but we did spot two stitched team repairs, one on an arm and the other on the lower front. A great early mesh worn by a Hall of Fame defender.
