Chosen first overall by Boston in the 1997 NHL draft, playmaking center Joe Thornton jumped straight into the Bruins' lineup that fall. Joe posted seven points in 55 games while seeing limited duty as an 18-year-old before he eventually blossomed into a 100-point man, winning the Art Ross and Hart trophies in 2005-06 when he posted 125 points with Boston and San Jose. Offered here is an original game worn Thornton #6 jersey photo matched to Big Joe's rookie season in 1997-98. Starter/NHL tagging in the back of the neck features a size 54-R tag sewn beneath and an NHL Center Ice Authentic tag above it making it likely that this was originally a 1996-97 set jersey that was used at the beginning of the following season when Thornton made his debut. The fight strap is intact and nice board burns on the hem adjacent to the embroidered Starter and NHL logos offer good evidence of game wear. A thread pull in the white insert in the middle of the right sleeve is an excellent match to an action photo of Thornton that accompanies this sensational rookie gamer.
