This circa 1931 die-cut stand-up advertising display features Montreal Canadiens legend Howie Morenz. The piece, used to promote CCM hockey skates, is on very thick cardboard with "Howie Morenz, Les Canadiens Montreal" and "Leading Scorer NHL, 1930-31" at the top. Morenz led the Canadiens to three Stanley Cups during his Hall of Fame career, including consecutive conquests in 1930 and 1931. Known as the Babe Ruth of hockey, Morenz was the most electrifying player of the 1920s and early-1930s. Heartbroken by his 1934 trade to Chicago, Morenz also had a short stint with the New York Rangers before he was reacquired by the Canadiens. Tragedy struck shortly after his return to the Habs when he died in his hospital bed in March 1937 while recuperating from a broken leg, apparently the victim of an embolism. This vintage Morenz CCM display is in very good condition and measures 10" across by 16" tall. Some minor surface damage and a missing stand-up mechanism from the back do little to detract from this colorful vintage Morenz ad display.
