Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Rare and desirable Rawlings durene WHA Houston Aeros game jersey attributed to Gordie Howe, obtained directly from former Aeros teammate Larry Lund. As Lund tells the story, this is one of two game jerseys he was given when he left the team and retired from the sport back in 1978 closing out a six-season stay in Houston. Lund proudly displayed the shirt in a glass cabinet in his Penticton, B.C. restaurant for decades along with other memorabilia from his professional hockey career. The blue knit is tagged in the collar by Rawlings in size 48 and has the correct lettering, shoulder stars and back and sleeve numbers. The nameplate reading "Gordie Howe" differs from other examples from the period and, although it was given by team training staff to Lund in this exact condition, we do not believe it is a correct plate. The jersey displays lighter wear and washing with a number of black stick marks. We cannot verify that this example was worn by Gordie Howe but it is certainly a correct team issue and the provenance is spot on. It is being offered as a game uniform, so please bid accordingly.
