Exceptional offering here was donned by the one and only Gordie Howe and is one of the nicest WHA Howe gamers to ever hit the market. Stretchy knit beauty has Gerry Cosby and size 50 tags in the neck, with everything sewn on in nice two-tone tackle twill. Howe's full name in stitched above his famous number "9" on the back in individual letters (no nameplate). The crimping of two lower areas of the "W" crest can be matched to our photo (which appeared on the cover of a Whalers publication), with a piece of thread hanging down from the harpoon also visible in the photo. Game use includes some 20 black stick marks on the front, half a dozen more on the right sleeve including one in the "9", a scrape on the same sleeve and two small burns on the other. The back features some small light stains (specs really), a pair of two-inch runs in the green stripe and another similar quarter-inch job. Interior pilling, notably at the elbows, is also to note. The "9" on the back is where Mr. Howe applied a thick silver ink autograph, adding his "Mr. Hockey" moniker. With the fight strap cut-out, the jersey has retained its original vibrant colors and will make for a spectacular addition to a serious Howe/WHA game worn jersey display. After four seasons in Houston, Gordie and sons Mark and Marty arrived in New England and spent the 1977-78 and '78-79 seasons toiling for the Whalers. Gordie contributed 34 goals and 96 points in '77-78, leading the team in scoring, while son Mark was second with 91. Utterly amazing for a guy who turned 50 towards the end (March 31st) of the season! Please note that this item is subject to a silent reserve. This exceptional jersey will come with a letter of authenticity.
