Highly significant to Montreal Canadiens' historians is this Hockey Hall of Fame framed crest which brings forth the story of Jean Baptiste “Jack” Laviolette, a top notch early-20th century player who actually formed the very first Canadiens team in 1909! An all-star point player with the U.S. Soo, Michigan team of the International Hockey League, Laviolette was later asked by Ambrose O'Brien to form “Les Canadiens”, to play in the new National Hockey Association. He recruited Newsy Lalonde and Didier Pitre, moved up to play forward with them, and helped the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup in 1915-16. Just over 7-1/2” square, the frame includes an engraved brass plate with Laviolette's name and “Elected August 1962”, and is joined by a second generation framed photo and a ticket stub picturing “Jack.”
