Historic red uniform worn by the talented Sidney Crosby during his rookie season as a member of Team Canada at the 2006 World Championships held in Riga, Latvia. Sidney stole the show during his debut on the Mens National Team where he became the youngest player ever to win a World Championship scoring title. He tallied a tournament-best eight goals and eight assists. Crosby was also named the top forward and was selected as a member of the competition's all- star team. The red Nike Swift Team Canada uniforms worn during the Worlds featured ground-breaking technology and were worn by members of the Canadian squad throughout seven of the ten games versus Sweden, Slovakia, Finland, Czech Republic, Latvia, Norway and Belarus. Each player wore three uniforms over the tournament: one white, one red and one black alternate. Crosby wore the "A" twice while in the red uniform and, as explained to us by the Team Canada trainer, the "A" was added and then removed as needed. As Sidney was slated to wear the "A" in the final medal match, the letter was re- attached to both the red and white jerseys. Close inspection of this red jersey shows evidence of removal and replacement of the alternate's "A". The revolutionary white Nike Swift jerseys are constructed of at least twenty separate panels of six different materials in a dramatic departure from the traditional hockey uniform. Each sports the embroidered Team Canada crest on the front with Heritage-style maple leafs up on each shoulder. White and black side and arm striping accents the look and two-tone tackle twill number "87" sits on each sleeve and again on the back below the "Crosby" nameplate. Inside you will find a heavy duty fight strap and Nike Canada's inventory bar code label with an IIHF patch sewn onto the outer tail. The blue Zepter International sponsor patch decorates each upper sleeve. Screened neck tagging includes the size 60 designation. Although the training staff attempted to wash out most of the marks on Sid's uniforms, game wear is evident and includes four stick slashes and marks on the lower front, another slash near the IIHF logo with some material pulls on the reverse and eight additional light stick marks and slashes on the arms. This jersey shows areas of pilling inside, most notably at the back of the collar behind the plate with more pilling at the neck seam, in the area of the fight strap and inside both sleeves (more on the left arm). Purchased directly from Team Canada and comes to you complete with a letter of authenticity hand-signed by Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson.
