Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - March 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/27/2007
Obtained from the family of Archie Wilder, this odd sweatshirt-like uniform was allegedly worn by Hall-of-Famer Sid Abel as a teenager playing for the Melville Millionaires of the Southern Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Very believable since the two future Detroit Red Wings were both born in Melville and teamed together on the ‘36-37 Saskatoon Wesleys team. A red felt “M” is sewn on the front and a similar number “5” is stitched to the back. With a zip-neck collar, the uniform has two team repairs (one small, one 1-inch job) on the left sleeve and a tiny one on the front. Preserved in exceptional condition, it offers an intriguing opportunity.
