Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
An appreciated defenceman who would do anything for his teammates during close to a decade along the Vancouver Canucks’ blueline and who became the most popular player on the team when he was traded to St. Louis, Garth Butcher wore this blue knit Kamloops Junior Oilers sweater briefly during the ’82-83 WHL season. Plenty of game use to report here with all seven team repairs material-backed affairs and including three sizeable ones on the front and four more, two of them biggies, on the left sleeve. There’s a big slash mark and resulting burn and hole above the “5” on the left sleeve. A two-inch gash on the right sleeve went unrepaired, as did a few other small miscellaneous holes/snags throughout. The Oilers crest, the numbers and the nameplate (with a screened-on “Butcher”) are all sewn-on. A possible nameplate change here since Garth played but five regular season and six playoff games for Kamloops, along with 55 NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks in ’82-83. Part of the base of the tackle twill “5” on the back became unstitched and remains that way. One of the two cloth fight straps is no longer present. A letter of authenticity from Drop The Gloves will be included with this splendid enforcer jersey.
