Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

The late Gump Worsley received this wonderful 1952-53 Calder Trophy miniature replica, during a special evening that was organised by the New York Rangers in 1989. Gump was named the NHL rookie of the year after he managed to post a 3.06 GAA and two shutouts in the first season of his HOF career while playing for a New York Rangers team that won just 17 of 70 games! The trophy stands 13” tall featuring a silver-plated cup mounted on a tiered wood base with rounded corners, which measures 6 1/4” wide at the bottom. “Lorne Worsley, 1952-53, Presented by New York Rangers March 15, 1989” reads the plaque on the front of the base, which has a Boffey sticker on the green felt bottom. “To be awarded annually to the player selected as the most proficient in the first year of competition in the National Hockey League” is engraved in script across the front of the bowl of the three-handled trophy. The 7 5/8” tall trophy, which is a faithful replica of the actual Calder Memorial Trophy, has acquired a nice patina with tarnish that is easily cleanable, if preferred. The trophy was originally obtained directly from the personal collection of Gump Worsley and will come with a Classic Auctions LOA.
